Fire on ONE Henry Hudson Contained at Port of Los Angeles; Operations Restored

A fire and explosion aboard the ONE Henry Hudson at the Port of Los Angeles on November 21 led to a temporary shutdown of four of the port’s seven terminals and a shelter-in-place order for nearby communities, both lifted the next morning as operations resumed and all crew were confirmed safe.
An estimated 100–117 of roughly 8,000 containers were damaged, carrying mixed cargo including auto parts, machinery, beef, fruit, footwear, and PPE. LAFD identified an electrical fault below deck as the likely cause, further complicated by hazardous materials such as lithium-ion batteries.
The vessel has been moved to an offshore anchorage, where suppression and cooling efforts continue.
This incident highlights the need for strict regulatory compliance and proactive risk management in cargo transportation. TPL will continue to support our customers by strengthening dangerous goods screening, risk assessments, and real-time shipment monitoring.
